SEPAT FPSO Topsides Fabrication Begins at CMHI Haimen
HAIMEN, China, 26 October 2026 — The first steel cut ceremony for the SEPAT FPSO topsides was held at CMHI’s Haimen yard, marking the start of topsides fabrication. Representatives from PETRONAS i.e MPM and GPE, Searah (a 50:50 energy joint venture between PETRONAS and Eni), OceanSTAR Elite (OSE), CM Energy (CMET) and CMHI Haimen attended the ceremony.
The topsides form an essential part of the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, housing key process systems for oil and gas treatment and gas compression. These systems require high standards of engineering, equipment integration and fabrication quality. The topsides first steel cut marks another important project milestone, following the signing of the EPC contract between OSE and CMHI in May 2026 and the project’s first steel cut in July.
During the ceremony, representatives delivered remarks expressing their confidence in and support for project execution. They then signed the topsides first steel cut milestone documents and jointly pressed the button to initiate cutting.
OSE thanks PETRONAS, Searah, CMET, CMHI and all project partners for their support and collaboration. OSE will continue to work closely with all parties, drawing on its engineering and project management expertise to advance construction of the SEPAT FPSO to the required quality standards and provide a reliable offshore production facility for the development of Malaysia’s Sepat field.
